Jolene Bayda

Jolene is the inspiring co-creator and Yoga director of b | creative space.

A student of life at a young age, I began my journey into Yoga: Dancing taught me the freedom of movement without thought. Playing music allowed me to listen, deeper. Synchronized swimming prepared me for retention of breath and the preciousness of air. Singing showed me how to find my own voice, Thai massage offered body awareness and touch, hatha helped create stillness, and vinyasa allotted life to each movement. Yoga found me.

I teach a 55 hour Yin Yoga certification and an immersive 200 hour self inquiry and teacher training program with partner Troy Turi. I offer retreats internationally and locally. My approach is ever-evolving: allow yoga to unlock the repetitive patterns of discord that cause restriction and instead empower through one’s own breath.

Familiarize yourself with how yoga poses can show you more than how to “strike a pose.” Utilizing a creative flow of Yang and Yin shapes, I will take you on a journey through the physical and subtle bodies, while embodying breath as a tool for release. Breathe to free your mind, and the rest will follow.

Yoga Teachers

  • I’m fuelled by curiosity, community, and connection. My classes are opportunities to cultivate a deeper awareness and sense of belonging in our bodies, minds, and communities. I love to create non-intimidating spaces for all bodies to feel comfortable to be themselves, without judgement. I aim to offer therapeutic embodiment experiences that meet students where they are, and empower them to do what feels best for them from moment to moment. I'm passionate about helping fitness and movement spaces be more inclusive and accessible, offering a variety of choice-based options to meet individual needs. We will use conscious breath, mindful movement, and deep stillness to explore the human experience together.

  • Movement has always been an integral part of Marla’s life. After studying ballet at the school of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, she joined Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal and later danced with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. In 1998 Marla discovered Yoga, and while studying and teaching she completed over 12 yoga certifications in various styles from restorative practices to more vigorous Ashtanga. After recognizing her passion for helping people destress and feel free in their bodies, Marla continued to study so that she could empower her clients with more effective tools to stay healthy. She went on to study the Franklin Method, Pilates, ELDOA™ and most recently became a Buteyko Breath Educator. With over 25 years of experience, and a passion for helping her clients move better, Marla is a lifelong learner and continues to evolve and grow as a teacher. She teaches in a way that lays out an education, thus empowering her clients and students to achieve a level of self care that approaches mastery.

  • For over two decades, Peter has devoted himself to the yogic path as a student, practitioner, and teacher. He's deeply passionate about this transformative lifestyle, embracing yoga's asana, pranayama, and meditation from the start. Peter's life mission is to share the profound impact of yoga with as many people as possible, viewing it as a form of healing. He aims to offer personalized teachings. Peter's journey has been guided by his eternal gratitude to Guru Ram Dass, and the book "Be Here Now" remains a constant companion. He started with Ashtanga Vinyasa and Sivananda traditions, authorized to teach by Swami Govindananda, and mainly follows the Krishnamacharya lineage, continuing his studies under Ryan Leier and Srivatsa Ramaswami.

  • Yoga postures are metaphors for how you live. How you do the yoga IS what you do in your life. By bringing conscious (ness) breath to whatever rises within, acceptance or space will make actual change in your life right now, forever… or not. Because you can choose to resist and continue to suffer. It’s all up to you. You are the teacher.

  • My hope is that when you practice with me, you feel freedom to show up exactly as you are, and that you find connection to within, in the here and now.

I teach Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin yoga and I am a certified mindfulness meditation teacher. I love creating warm, inclusive and cozy spaces where we can be with ourselves and be in community. When practicing with me, you can expect a class that is filled with choice, introspection, yoga philosophy, poetry, and the tool that I find most helpful of all in finding our home within, our breath. I’m still learning this practice, forever, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to guide you. Come join me for an intentional and mindful yoga class and leave feeling grounded and connected.

  • Sadie, a Hatha Yoga teacher since 2005, offers various yoga styles, including power, restorative, and yin. Her classes blend gentle and challenging postures, prioritizing yogic breathing and mindfulness for physical safety. Her clear voice, humor, and technical guidance enhance the path to one's natural state. She's taught yoga with dedication for over a decade, seeking truth and transformation. Her mission is to share her passionate discoveries, offering inclusive, meditative, and compassionate yoga to all.

  • Ginny is a true believer that mindful movement is medicine. Like for so many, she first came to Yoga for its physical benefits but over time these benefits have come to feel like added value to the more life-changing shifts that have occurred within her mental, emotional and spiritual body as a result of a dedicated practice. Ginny moved to Vancouver from London in 2022. She shares a deep love and connection to nature and feels most at home by the ocean or in the mountains. In these equally beautiful, wide-open spaces, she is always able to find profound perspective on life. Ginny strongly believes that Yoga is for everyone - all bodies, all ages, all levels are welcome. Her classes are grounding, intentional and breath-centred, inviting embodied movement, pranayama and introspection.

  • I am a Therapeutic Yoga Teacher and a C-IAYT candidate with a Diploma in Yoga Therapy from the Vancouver School of Healing Arts (VSOHA). My journey with yoga began 16 years ago as a way to move and lessen tension in my body largely caused by an active lifestyle and experiences with anxiety. Throughout my practice, I have become interested in the ways that body, mind and spirit are connected and have learned that yoga heals much more than just the ailments found on the physical level.

I am dedicated to deepening my own understanding of yoga to be able to teach and articulate the healing power of this modality to others. Integrating my deep interest in anatomy, physiology, neuroscience and psychology, I teach gentle Vinyasa, Hatha and Restorative classes that focus on moving with compassion and finding presence.

  • From hard hat to yoga mat…

I am an engineer who is drawn to structure, precision and technique. I am an anthropologist, an avid traveler, and there is no facet of human life that does not spike my curiosity, as we are all united yet all unique. I am an advocate for slow living and taking time to be present and find sustenance of every kind right where you are.

I’ve been an earnest seeker and inquisitive practitioner for well over a decade. In my offerings, I gather threads from various yoga methods - thorough alignment and technique of Hatha yoga, powerful flows of Vinyasa yoga, and quiet insight of Yin yoga - and seamlessly weave them into the fabric of my classes.

  • Ally was born and raised in Vancouver B.C. and she has been practicing yoga and meditation for the past 13 years. Ally completed both her 200 hr and 300 hr yoga teacher training with Yoga East West, studying with teachers from all over the world. Her personal journey with yoga has been one with deep healing, spiritual and transformational experiences. Through her classes, she encourages her students to journey inward through a mindful practice of breath, movement and meditation. Ally's offerings include Hatha Flow, Yin and Sound Healing, and are designed for students of all levels.

All of Allys offerings include an intuitive sound experience. Using crystal sound bowls, koshi chimes, drums and other healing instruments, Ally will guide you on a journey, grounding you in a deep state of relaxation and tranquility. The soothing sounds and vibrations will balance the energy within, creating inner harmony in the mind and body.

  • Emilia has been a student of yoga since 2014 and views it as a great privilege to hold the seat of the teacher. She first came to yoga seeking ways to shift how her physical body presented to the world, though what has kept her in this practice has been the deepening of relationship with self that moving in alignment with breath has offered. Because of this, Emilia’s yoga instruction largely comes from a place of wanting to support others to feel at home in their own mind, body and soul.

Her offerings tend to take the form or Hatha or Vinyasa practices that weave in thoughtful, creative and breath-centred sequences with sprinklings of mindfulness, embodied movement, yogic philosophies, tools for nervous system regulation. To Emilia, there is no prerequisite to yoga, rather all bodies are invited to move and breathe with me. Her hope is that you leave our time together feeling strong yet grounded, and powerful yet centred.

  • MAT PILATES

Originally from Toronto, I made the move out west six years ago in pursuit of possibility and search for enlightenment in mind, body, and soul. Cultivating a profound passion for movement since my early years, I persuaded my parents to enroll me in dance, providing me with a platform to creatively express and move the emotional core within myself. Fueled by a fascination for human potential, movement has consistently offered me the means to articulate my essence in a manner that nurtures both my body and soul. As an educator, my objective is to cultivate an environment where individuals can feel safe and liberated, enabling them to explore their own unique expressions within a collective space.

  • MAT + APPARATUS

From an early age, Zorica's passion for movement emerged as she entered a professional gymnastics club in Montenegro. A former Olympic gymnast, she garnered numerous international awards in classical competitive gymnastics. Transitioning from her gymnastics career, Zorica delved into body movement studies through the Kinesiology Method, teaching athletic conditioning to young athletes. With over 12 years of Pilates self-practice and a decade of teaching experience, she discovered a significant parallel between gymnastics and Pilates. Both emphasize focus, body awareness, precision, and control essential for executing desired movements. Her journey reflects a continuous commitment to movement and athletic development.

  • APPARATUS

Growing up, I was not a very athletic person, and I thought it was fine. It seemed fine, until I was about halfway through my first pregnancy, when I started to feel all sorts of discomfort all over my body. I started to seek a solution to solve this problem and found Pilates – and it never left my life after that. The more I practiced, the more I wanted to know. I completed Polestar Pilates Teacher’s Training Courses – Mat and Reformer and became an instructor. And my study went on. I would love to share my experiences and help my students find the connection with their own bodies, hope they could move more freely at ease and enjoy their life the way they like.

Gyrotonic Instructors

  • Monique’s journey in mind-body movements started in 2000 when she was looking for something to help with her scoliosis. Having done ballet at a younger age, she found a natural appeal in the lengthening, dance-like movements of Pilates. Learning Pilates improved her body alignment and allowed her to find strength and ease in movement again. She went through comprehensive training with the PhysicalMind Institute and became a fully certified Pilates Instructor in 2006.

Around that time, Monique also started exploring the Gyrotonic Expansion System and was amazed at how it takes movement to another level - the circular and spiralling movements, the way it integrates the entire body with breath and energy, the continuous flow it creates and sustains... She completed training and became a certified Gyrotonic Trainer in 2007.

Monique combines her background in Educational Theatre with her knowledge and experience in Gyrotonic and Pilates in teaching people of all ages and fitness levels. She aims to help clients learn about their bodies and how to make them work for their particular needs, whether it is correcting alignment and movement habits, rehabilitating from injuries and chronic pain, or conditioning the body to enhance athletic performance.
